Resolution
WHEREAS, the Internet Medical Association is dedicated to providing patients, their doctors and their nurses the very best medical care possible,
WHEREAS, many hospitals engage in exclusive contracts coverning nuclear medicine services with physician groups unable to provide a physian board-certified in nuclear medicine or nuclear radiology,
WHEREAS, these exclusive contracts effectively create a situation of economic credentialling by hospitals,
WHEREAS, this process of economic credentialling often excludes board-certified physicians from obtaining full, active privileges at a hospital without a board-certified nuclear medicine physician on staff,
THEREFORE, the Internet Medical Association encourages hospitals only to engage in exclusive contracts covering nuclear medicine services with physician groups able to provide a physician Board-Certified by the American Board of Nuclear Medicine, or in Nuclear Radiology by the American Board of Radiology.
THEREFORE, when the contracted physician group is unable to provide a physician with this level of certification, hospitals are encouraged to apply an open medical staff policy to all nuclear medicine services.
